Military Bombard Vandals in Arepo
Nigerian military on Saturday intensified the aerial bombardment of Fatola, the base of vandals in the Arepo area of Ogun State.

One of our correspondents who was around the scene of the incident at the time, observed that the attack started at about 12pm and lasted for about 30 minutes. Our correspondent counted at least eight missiles fired by a figacross the creek at intervals.
Another aircraft was observed hovering around the area.
Residents, who were caught unawares, ran for their lives due to the ground-shaking effects of the missiles.
Business activities were grounded and many residents fled their houses for fear of being hit by missiles.

Following the bombardment of the Arepo creeks, the Nigerian Navy explained that its resolve to use air power to dismantle vandals camps and shanties   was borne out of difficulty to access the terrain on water and land.
In a joint Military operation code named “AWATSE” a Hausa word for ‘to scatter’ the first aerial bombardment was launched Thursday evening on Iroko creeks in Arepo.
It was gathered that the militants who have built a colony in the creeks attempted to repeal the Military but were overwhelmed by the aerial bombardment.

Unconfirmed report had it that lives were lost during the operation but the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Ferguson Bobai stated while briefing journalists yesterday, that it was too early to ascertain the number of casualties, as nobody had been able to access the terrain either by land or by water.
