Mine Workers Diverted Explosives to Militants

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has recalled all Federal mines officers in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal capital territory.

This is coming after the arrest of five security operatives and two others for the diversion of explosives to militants. The ministry also withdrew the licence of Koko, an explosives company in Delta.

A statement by the Special Assistant on Media to the minister, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, said the recall of the mines officers was aimed at strengthening the institutional capacity of the ministry to cooperate with the security agencies in ensuring the security of lives and property in the country, as well as safety of the environment.

All the affected officers are to report to the headquarters of the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, Abuja for further directives, the statement said.
