Shekau ‘Resurfaces’, Threatens Buhari- Burutai Responds

After many claims of the death of long time spokesperson of the violent Islamic sect Boko Haram, Ibrahim Shekau has resurfaced with a video which gives the supposition that he is alive and well.

In the youtube video released on Thursday last week but has now been taken down, Shekau rejected his replacement at the helm of the group by Islamic State, to which he declared allegiance last year.

Shekau made the announcement in a YouTube audio recording on Thursday and described the new leader Abu Musab al-Barnawi as an infidel who will never earn his allegiance. The Associated Press cited an Islamic State newspaper which reported that the new leader, Al-Barnawi promised not to attack mosques or markets used by Muslims.

With Shekau at the supposed leadership of the sect however has been known for his extremely violent means of terror, slaughtering both Christians and Muslims alike, claiming that he is against anyone who supports western education.

In the 10 minute video, Ibrahim Shekau as usual threatened the Nigerian State and also President Buhari. He reiterated the sect’s goal to establish sharia law across Nigeria.

But responding to these threats, Chief of Army staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai insisted on Monday, August 8, that the Nigerian Army had defeated the Boko Haram terrorist group.Burutai Burutai stressed that the army has ousted the sect and stopped it from re-grouping anywhere in the country to cause havoc. Buratai spoke in Jos, the Plateau state capital, when he paid a courtesy visit to the Gbong Gwom Jos, His Royal Majesty, Da Jacob Buba, in his palace in Jishe, while on a familiarisation tour of military units and formations under the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army.

The last known video which showed the Shekau was released Feburary 2015 during which time the group pledged their allegiance to the Islamic state.
