Russia’s Underground Train Bombed, 14 die

Two explosions on St Petersburg underground has killed ten people and injured dozens more. Shocking pictures have emerged showing the devastating damage caused as bloodied passengers are seen lying badly hurt on the ground.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered his condolences to the victims, after the anti-terrorism committee confirmed ten people died in the explosion. Blasts involving devices filled with shrapnel were set off inside two carriages at Sennaya Ploshchad metro station.

Video shows terrified passengers running from the platform amid clouds of smoke.

The likely suspect in the deadly is a Kyrgyz-born Russian citizen, Kyrgyzstan’s security service said on Tuesday morning. A spokesman for the GKNB security service identified the suspect as Akbarzhon Jalilov, born in the city of Osh in 1995. He provided no other details.

Kyrgyzstan, a predominantly Muslim Central Asian nation of six million, is Russia’s close political ally and hosts a Russian military airbase.

Russian authorities said they were investigating a suspected suicide bombing on Monday after a blast on the Saint Petersburg subway system killed 14 people and wounded dozens.

Russian authorities raised the death toll from 11 to 14 on Tuesday morning. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
