Students of Abia State University have protested the accusation that the alleged rape video that was circulated on social network platforms happened within the school premises, and the victim and perpetrators are students of the university.
Carrying placards saying “we are not guilty of rape, give us a fair hearing, spread the truth not lies, we are God’s own university, stop, Do not spoil the integrity of ABSU, we are innocent”, the protesters marched to the Senate building of the institution to voice their grievance on the alleged rape and were received by the Dean of student affairs.
The Dean of the Students affairs of Abia State University, Dr Udo Nwokocha commended the students for the peaceful demonstration and condemned what he called “the campaign of calumny” against the institution and challenged anybody with proof to “come out openly with the truth”.
The Students Union President, Christian Afulike said the demonstration is to inform the world of the students’ innocence as these malicious accusations are damaging to the integrity of the students and the entire institution.
Some students who spoke to Channels Television refuted earlier reports that the victim and the perpetrators were students of the university, pointing to some of the victims utterances during the incident.
